The JP1.2/1.3 USB header is small, there is no marker on it to identify pin one, however you can use the following picture to identify pin 1:

Here is how to determine the pin 1 on the JP1 adapter. Put the JP1 adapter as shown in the photo, bumpy side face up, header to your left and sockets to the right. You use the header (left) to connect to your JP1.x cable, and use the sockets (right) connect to your remote.
